Children’s Display

  • by Fredric Frennessen

The date was set for the annual Children's Display and medal presentation. This is an opportunity where family and friends of the children can see what the little cherubs are up to on Saturday mornings.

On this glorious day in May, 30 exited kids and their entourage gathered at the Carnival Hall in Basingstoke to show case their dancing and receive their medals and certificates.

At the beginning of the year, the principals, Fredric & Vicki, decided to come up with a new dance piece for the finale.

With great enthusiasm and anticipation Fredric & Vicki informed the children they were doing a rendition of the popular stage show Hairspray, only to find out the kids knew about the show, had the DVD, sang the songs and already knew all the steps!

So with added pressure of not wanting to be told the steps they were given were wrong,  Fredric & Vicki set about choreographing the show.

It soon became clear that organising  30 children, many having different midterms and also not being able to attend all classes was not going to be a easy task, but they all stepped up to the challenge and delivered on the day. Well done.

After a few ballroom and latin demonstrations by the children, it was time for the medal presentation and photo opportunities. With Vicki on the microphone, each child was called to receive their trophies.

Although it was one of the hottest days of the year and the studio was baking, it didn't dampen the spirit. When the event was finished, everyone left looking forward to the new challenges that lay ahead.
