Another triumphant competition for DanceRite started early on the morning of Sunday 9th May. The dancers, the teachers and their fabulous supporters made their way to Hove Town Hall for a day on the dance floor.

The Town Hall was an interesting venue with a slightly unusually shaped pentagonal floor, a little smaller than some, leading to some skilful manoeuvring by the leads and also some spectacular crashes! A beautiful balcony lined the top floor with observers leaning over to appreciate a bird’s eye of the whole dance floor. The sequence dancing looked wonderful from this angle, like a regal banquet from a historical era.

As a school DanceRite pulled out all the stops in a large, competitive environment with many dancers getting call backs, making finals and even winning some of the categories, with our whirling waltzes, romantic rumbas and tantalising tangos.

Everyone showed a clear improvement with some great performances going unrewarded in the difficult heats. A couple of miscalled numbers led to a spectrum of emotions pass across the faces of Camilla and Kay, how could they have missed them! Both ladies went on to ensure that no-one got their numbers wrong again, dominating the finals of their events.

We had a few finals consisting of up to three DanceRite pupils including Amanda, Andrea and Ben in the over 35s Bronze ballroom, and Kay, Sandy and Tina making up the finals in the over 35s Silver, both for Ballroom and Latin.

In the over 50s pre-bronze we had battle between husband and wife with Mike and Teresa both doing extremely well and Mike graciously receiving his 1st place in Latin!

In the couples events DanceRite took 1st, 2nd and 6th places in the under 35s up to Bronze level with Ben and Camilla winning 1st place followed by Dan and Amanda, and Paul and Georgia.

A special mention goes out to Rachel who was whisked away to dance with a young man from another dance school on the look out for a spare lady. She took it all in her stride, and did not look at all out of place next to the silver and gold couples, making the final and coming 5th.

Overall a brilliant day, with competitors spurred on by some fantastic supporters who made their smiles grow every time they shouted the names and numbers. Well done everyone, and bring on the next one!
